Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Today, Warren Buffett is the largest individual philanthropic giver in the United States. Buffet is Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, a multinational holding company. In 2010, he and Bill and Melinda Gates co-founded the Giving Pledge, in which 40 of America's wealthiest individuals publicly committed to giving the majority of their wealth during their lifetimes or in their wills to address some of the most urgent social problems, such as poverty alleviation. The Pledge went global in 2013, and now includes more than 200 individuals and families across 23 countries. In 2016, Buffett pledged more than $36 billion in Berkshire shares to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and in 2019, committed to donate more than 99% of his $86.7 billion fortune to philanthropy.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, based out of Washington State, is the wealthiest private charitable organization globally, with an endowment of $42.3 billion. The foundation focuses its giving on U.S. and international poverty, education, and healthcare, as well as international development.
