Implement trauma-informed practices
Individuals living in poverty are disproportionately impacted by violence and trauma.
Undertake comprehensive training to enable your organization to address the effects of trauma on health outcomes. Ensure staff are supported in developing skills and understanding how to provide support.
To get started:
Educate clinical and non-clinical staff on the research concerning the impact of poverty and trauma on health outcomes.
Design trauma-informed programs that align with the needs of your community, with an understanding of the experiences of those living below the NPPS.
Develop strategies for staff self-care as part of the program.
Best Practices / Innovative Programs
The Trauma-Informed Care Implementation Resource Center, developed by the Center for Health Care Strategies, Inc., offers program implementation steps as well as examples of how other organizations have incorporated these strategies.
