Provide public library cards to all students

Students living below the NPPS often do not have equitable access to resources needed to be successful in school. While public libraries are free to the community, they may not be conveniently located to where students live.

Partner with local libraries to remove barriers by automatically distributing library passes for every student.

To get started:

  1. Collaborate with your local public library to create an efficient borrowing model, including book delivery at your school.

  2. Create a communications plan with your partner library to increase awareness of services.

  3. Ensure that the program remains accessible by removing punitive late fees.

Best Practices / Innovative Programs

Metro Nashville Public Schools and the Nashville Public Library offer Limitless Libraries, a program for K-12 students. Students are automatically connected with library services and they do not have to pay overdue fines.

This article details the partnership between Seattle Public Schools and the Seattle Public Library. Their program, Library Link, allows K-12 students and their families to borrow books and movies, as well as access online education.
