Become a mentor for a student in your community

There are students in every community in the United States who would benefit from having a mentor in their life. This is even more important where opportunities are not equitably provided.

Volunteer time as a mentor to a student entering or returning to school, juggling school with other life challenges, struggling with retention, or who otherwise may not have a strong support system.

To get started:

  1. Assess your ability to make a long-term commitment to a student.

  2. Research schools or nonprofit organizations in your area that are operating mentorship programs for students.

  3. Clarify your interests and strengths when committing to help.

Best Practices / Innovative Programs

The National Mentoring Partnership (MENTOR) is a nonprofit organization that offers evidence-based resources to mentoring programs. MENTOR maintains a national database of youth mentoring programs with which people can volunteer.
