Volunteer at a child care center in your community

Many child care offerings in low-income communities lack the resources of middle-and upper-income child care centers, leaving children in those communities behind in their cognitive development.

Volunteer and encourage others in your community to volunteer at child care centers with fewer available resources, such as those serving households living below 50% AMI.

To get started:

  1. Identify child care centers in your community that lack adequate staffing and support, such as those with higher adult-to-child ratios (lower adult-to-child ratios are strong predictors of child care quality compliance).

  2. Contact centers that you know serve families living below 50% AMI and offer to read and spend time with children or provide administrative support.
