Offer innovative health insurance options

Health care costs are one of the main reasons that individuals and families fall into poverty. At the same time, health disparities (including mental health disparities) require attention in your policies and benefits as you support employees who live or have lived below the NPPS.

Partner with local health care companies to create options affordable to the company that will remove vulnerability for your part-time employees or for the families of your full-time staff. Seek health care packages that will include substantive mental health support.

To get started:

  1. Survey your employees to obtain input regarding their health care needs.

  2. Identify quality employer-sponsored insurance options, such as medical, dental, vision, mental health, and paid sick leave.

  3. Reach out to local health care companies and philanthropic organizations to solicit interest in partnerships.

Best Practices / Innovative Programs

Kaiser Permanente's Charitable Health Coverage (CHC) program offers health care coverage to low-income individuals and families. Through CHC, Kaiser works with health care partners, and could potentially partner with community-based organizations, to subsidize health insurance, co-pays, and pharmacy costs.
