Support employees facing eviction or in need of costly home repairs

Individuals and families living below the NPPS are at an increased risk for eviction, foreclosure, and homelessness. In fact, in cities and towns across the country, there are thousands of eviction filings every single year, including the past year during the pandemic.

Work cross-departmentally and with HR leadership to develop a comprehensive strategy to increase awareness and support for employees at risk.

To get started:

  1. Bring together interested members to create a long-term strategy of engagement.

  2. Connect individuals living below the NPPS to housing-specific organizations or legal aid organizations to prevent eviction.

  3. Create a fund for employees facing utility shut-offs or eviction.

Best Practices / Innovative Programs

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Homelessness Prevention Program has more than 80 locations in Arizona and works to prevent homelessness by providing direct assistance to avoid utility shut-off and eviction. They also co-fund with other agencies and target one-time family assistance to those who have the potential to regain self-sufficiency in a relatively short amount of time

Familiarize your agency with the work of HomeStart, located in the Greater Boston area. The organization has prevented nearly 3,000 families from experiencing homelessness over the last 20 years.
