A resolution to make
New Year’s maybe our greatest opportunity to create change. Our minds open widely to new possibilities. We look closely at ourselves and our lives - and ask what we want to create.
This year, what if you define yourself more broadly - beyond the five-foot, six-foot, or whatever size frame that envelopes you? What if you see yourself as a significant part of a greater whole and make your resolutions accordingly?
Instead of trying to become healthier as an individual, what if you choose to make the larger society healthier?
To start, resolve that no part of your community - no person - experiences hunger. Just as you are only healthy when well-nourished, a community is only healthy when all its members are well-nourished. That’s a resolution to make!
If homelessness has increased near you, as it has across this country, get involved. It is not someone else’s problem, not with this expanded view of yourself. It may seem complicated - it may be complicated - but learn about it and take action. Believe in the possibility of change and resolve to be part of it.
There is no part of our world that does not connect to you, and there is no problem that you cannot help solve. So new Year’s is a time for believing in what is possible. And resolving to make it so.
