On September 14, 2023, we gathered with leaders and motivated individuals from various sectors to discuss changing the status quo approach to poverty in the Baltimore region.
Despite a 60-year war on poverty, income insecurity remains a fact of life for nearly half a million residents of Baltimore City and County. Poverty affects all of us through social unrest, public expenditures, and, most importantly, lost human potential. It is time for a new approach, one that involves all of us.
At the Baltimore Poverty Forum, participants:
Listened to individuals with first-hand experience living in poverty. Heard what they say works and does not work and how they think you can most effectively help solve poverty in Baltimore.
Participated in a working group with people in their sectors (business, health care, education, faith, etc.).
Used the National Plan to End Poverty to identify one or more actions for their group to pursue over the next 12 months.
