Connect skilled or experienced congregants to volunteer housing work

Five experienced volunteers may accomplish more than 50 volunteers with no experience in housing-based work.

Organize congregants with construction experience (or the like) to volunteer regularly with an affordable housing nonprofit.

To get started:

  1. Identify local nonprofits engaged in affordable housing work, specifically with groups in need of volunteers to help build housing.

  2. Coordinate groups of volunteers with experience and interest in making a long-term commitment to this type of volunteer work.

  3. Ensure programs are set in place for long-term partnerships, allowing for experience gained to result in increased efficiency and outcomes.

Best Practices / Innovative Programs

For more than 16 years, four individuals have volunteered together every Saturday at Habitat for Humanity in Fresno. Known as the "E-Team," they complete all of the electrical work.
