Host networking events and job fairs

Exposure or access to career opportunities is a challenge for many who live in areas of concentrated poverty or where economic activity is minimal.

Networking and job fair events can give individuals living below the NPPS the opportunity to learn about possible career paths and develop their professional communication skills, and expand their professional network.

To get started:

  1. Identify employment barriers faced by those in your region. Our data provides indicators about commute times and employment to help you get started.

  2. Encourage your membership to participate in each event.

  3. Connect with nonprofit organizations that offer workforce development or job training programs and discuss how they address barriers.

  4. Schedule events during various times to accommodate individuals who do or do not work, such as evenings or weekends. Consider offering an on-site child care option for each event.
