Subsidize transportation for those below the NPPS

Transportation is a heavy burden, logistically and financially, for individuals living below the NPPS.

Focusing on myriad ways to help employees overcome this burden will increase their success and your retention.

To get started:

  1. Work with local transportation authorities and/or nonprofit organizations to provide reduced-rate or free public transportation passes. Connect with local philanthropic organizations and prospective business partners to underwrite costs.

  2. Partner with ridesharing companies to subsidize the cost of rides.

  3. Invest in car donation programs that provide access to vehicles in areas where other forms of transportation are not a viable option.

  4. Provide shuttle transportation to and from large public transit stations.

  5. Subsidize parking for employees who must drive.

  6. Offer qualified transportation costs, such as a fringe benefit, to allow for pre-tax treatment.

Best Practices / Innovative Programs

Lyft’s Jobs Access Program is designed to provide free or discounted rides to individuals in job training programs, traveling to job interviews, and for the first few weeks of employment until the employee receives their first paycheck.

Vehicles for Change provides reliable, affordable vehicles to eligible families while also providing re-entry skills to men and women to become skilled auto mechanics.
